From the banks of the Oconee River in northeast Georgia hail the almighty dub/reggae collective, DubConscious. While the town of Athens is known to be the conception place of many rock ‘n roll icons, the members of DubConscious remain grounded on a solution-based ideology, social and environmental awareness and the constant evolution of today’s live music. The unique blend of dub, reggae and Afrobeat pays homage to such musical pioneers as Burning Spear, Lee “Scratch” Perry and Fela Kuti and has been labeled as “music for the subconscious.”

While they are no strangers to the road, DubConscious thrives in the studio and have completed five albums in just five years. Word of Life, the band’s debut album, was release in 2004 followed almost immediately by American Dream in 2005. Realization, a double-disc released in 2006, was recorded at the legendary Tree Sound Studios, produced by Grammy Award winning producer Robert Hannon (Outkast – Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, Perpetual Groove). Their EP, Stereotype, released in 2007, was recorded at John Keane Studios in Athens and was also produced by Hannon.

In December 2007, DubConscious returned to Tree Sound Studious for their most ambitious and artistic effort to date and performed in front of an over-sold audience at the recording studio’s well-known hall, the Cave. NonViolent, set for release early this year will feature a mature DubConscious and will see the band performing in major southeast markets. DubConscious’ genuinely inspiring performances, along with their studio recordings, successfully harness the energy and powerful nature of the genres they exemplify.
