Dr. John On The Mend After Illness Leads To Hospitalization

New Orleans legend Dr. John was just about to take the stage on Saturday afternoon for a performance at Rumsey Playfield in NYC’s Central Park as part of the Summerstage series, when one of the event’s organizers told the crowd the good doctor would be unable to perform. Dr. John was taken to hospital after falling ill even though the musician wanted to proceed with the set.

The good news is that Dr. John is “doing much better” and is expected to return to the stage next weekend according to a note from Night Trippers trombonist and musical director Sarah Morrow to NOLA.com. Dr. John shared the following about his condition on Twitter:
Wuz bitten by a flu bug & doc wouldn’t let me play today. Thanx to all the fans for their love & I’ll be out jammin’ for you all again soon.
— Dr. John (@akadrjohn) August 3, 2014 The man born Mac Rebennack also cancelled appearances at the Newport Jazz Fest on Sunday and at the Payomet Performing Arts Center in North Truro, MA tonight. The next scheduled gig for Dr. John is a show in Scottsdale, AZ on Friday night. As of press time, the concert is still a go.
