Dolly Parton Remains Eligible For Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction
Read a note from Rock Hall organizers in response to Parton's request to be dropped from consideration.
A response to Dolly Parton‘s request to be taken out of consideration for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’s Class of 2022 has been shared today by the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Foundation. While acknowledging the “thoughtful note,” the committee responsible for nominations will let the voters decide whether Parton should be inducted.
“Dolly’s nomination, along with the other 16 for the class of 2022 was sent out earlier this month to our 1,200 general ballot voters, the majority of whom are artists themselves, for consideration for induction at our ceremony,” wrote the Foundation in explaining that basically the ship has sailed. The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Foundation pointed out the following in regards to Parton’s contention that she shouldn’t be inducted because she doesn’t consider herself a “rocker”:
From its inception, Rock & Roll has had deep roots in Rhythm & Blues and Country music. It is not defined by any one genre, rather a sound that moves youth culture. Dolly Parton’s music impacted a generation of young fans and influenced countless artists that followed. Her nomination to be considered for induction into to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame followed the same process as all other artists who have been considered.
Parton issued her statement back on Monday expressing her wishes to “bow out” of consideration for induction into the Rock Hall. “Even thought I am extremely flattered and grateful to be nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I don’t feel that I have earned that right,” Parton wrote. “I really do not want votes to be split because of me, so I must respectfully bow out.”
The Class of 2022 will be revealed in May. Beck, MC5, Rage Against The Machine, Carly Simon and Dionne Warwick are also among those nominated. General ballot voters include artists, historians and music industry veterans. An induction ceremony will take place this fall.
