After playing the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival for the first time on Thursday, members of Goose teamed with members of The Disco Biscuits for a special collaborative concert. The show billed as “Foie Gras & CrumpUntz” was held at the Joy Theater.
Goose guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, drummer Cotter Ellis and guitarist/keyboardist Peter Anspach pulled double duty on Thursday with their somewhat surprise appearance at the Joy Theater. Bisco bassist Marc “Brownie” Brownstein and keyboardist Aron Magner rounded out the Foie Gras & CrumpUntz configuration.
The single collaborative set began with the Disco Biscuits’ “Helicopters.” The one-off quintet continued to mine tDB’s catalog by segueing into “Miracles.” The ensemble’s first foray into Goose’s catalog was the transition into “Creatures.”
The non-stop start to the set continued with The Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows” and a return to finish the opening “Helicopters.” Talking Heads’ “Crosseyed And Painless” kept the cross-pollinated set going.
Mitarotonda, Ellis and Anspach then led a performance of Goose’s “Slow Ready” before handing the reins to Brownie and Magner for “Digital Buddha.” The set came to an end with Goose’s “Hungersite” moving into a cover of “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record).”
The first Foie Gras & CrumpUntz show ended with Goose’s “Hot Tea” landing in the encore slot. Click through the posts below for a look at what went down at last night in NOLA.
