The Disco Biscuits delivered their first-ever “Powered Down” acoustic concert at Garcia’s in Chicago on Friday. The band utilized acoustic instruments and worked through classics and newer material for the first of three concerts in The Windy City.

Bisco’s Powered Down show began a three night run in Chicago, with the band moving to Thalia Hall on Saturday and Sunday for electric shows. Friday’s acoustic outing at Garcia’s saw bassist Marc Brownstein on an acoustic five string, guitarist Jon Gutwillig on acoustic guitar and keyboardist Aron Magner on grand piano. New drummer Marlon B. Lewis presided over a trimmed down kit with bongos instead of rack toms.

The Powered Down concert got underway with “Running Into The Night,” before tDB linked up the vintage “I-Man” and relatively new composition “Better In Doses.” The latter debuted in 2024 and evolved from a “Wormhole” jam. The pairing stretched to over 30 minutes.

Next, the band fit a “Tangled Up In Blue,” a staple cover for Jerry Garcia in his namesake club, jam in “World Is Spinning.” Bisco also weaved season-appropriate “Joy To The World” teases within newish cuts “Buy The Time” and “Free Will Exchange.” The Disco Biscuits finished up “I-Man” to wrap the single set before returning to encore with “Catalyst.”
