Derek Trucks Reveals Guest Filled Tedeschi Trucks Band Show To Be Issued On CD/DVD

In recent interviews guitarist Derek Trucks has revealed the Tedeschi Trucks Band was working on a new live album and concert film. Today, more details of the new CD/DVD have emerged thanks to a just-published Derek Trucks interview from Sarasota’s Herald-Tribune.

Trucks reveals the as-of-yet untitled DVD/CD will contain the Tedeschi Trucks Band’s September 9th show at the Fox Theater in Oakland and is due in spring. The 9th was the second of two consecutive TTB concerts at the Bay Area venue and featured guest appearances from Alam Khan on “These Walls” and Chris Robinson on Bob Dylan’s “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” and “Space Captain,” a song popularized by Joe Cocker.

“The filmmakers who were working on the ‘Mad Dogs & Englishmen’ tribute we did with Leon Russell (in 2015) sent us a sizzle reel and the way they did it felt so good we invited them to come out on our West Coast tour and they filmed our two shows at Oakland and recorded every show of the tour to do maybe a compilation live album. But the second night in Oakland felt so good we decided to make the live album that one show, and the film is us playing but also us on the road. I watched it a few times and feel like it’s a petty honest depiction of us. I like it,” Derek said. “There’s a pretty amazing version of ‘Bird on the Wire,'” Trucks added, “and with Leonard Cohen and Leon passing it feels even more relevant.”

Derek was asked about a potential Allman Brothers Band reunion and again said he has no interest. However, he would be interested in jamming with his old ABB guitar mate Dickey Betts at a series of Sunshine Music Festival concerts next month. “I always think about Dickey when the (Sunshine Music Festival) shows come up,” Trucks revealed. “I will definitely reach out to him. It’s that time.”
