Derek Trucks Feels Allman Brothers Reunion Wouldn’t Enhance Legacy

Earlier this week the Boston Herald ran an interview with Derek Trucks in which the guitarist made it clear he’s not interested in a potential Allman Brothers Band reunion. Derek also spoke with Ultimate Classic Rock ahead of the last set of Tedeschi Trucks Band dates of the year, which begins tonight in Boston, and shared more thoughts on a potential reunion of his former band.
Gregg Allman set off the latest round of ABB reunion talk earlier this month, when he said band members had been talking about a major tour. When asked how far along the talks are, Trucks told UCR, “Well, I get those group texts every once and while. (Laughs.) But I don’t know how far down the road they are looking. I do know how far down the road I am. I’ve moved on.” When pushed to see if there’s any chance he’d participate Derek added, “Not for me. I’ve moved on.” He then went on to state, “My calendar will keep me busy. But it’s not even the calendar. I feel like we went out on the right note, and if anything is being put together, it’s probably not to enhance the legacy. It might be more pocket-driven, and I’m not interested in that. There’s enough cynicism in the world, and I’m not going to contribute to it.”
Trucks doesn’t take his time in the Allmans for granted, “Obviously. To be part of the Allmans for 15 years was a huge honor. I mean, it’s a legendary band. I got to be around a lot of people and make a lot of great music. But it’s been nice to be able to just focus. And at the end of the day, the Tedeschi Trucks Band is going to sink or swim on its own merit, not on my association with the Allmans or work with Clapton.”
Head to Ultimate Classic Rock for more from Derek about the TTB.
