Umphrey’s McGee will be a man down for their March tour through the West Coast and Mountain West. The band shared a statement today announcing that guitarist Jake Cinninger will not join them for the 14-date run.
“[Jake] is taking a necessary leave of absence for personal reasons. We love him immensely and support him completely,” the band wrote.
“Cancelling shows didn’t feel right — but bringing everything we’ve got does. And we will bring it,” UM added before thanking fans for their endless support “for us and for Jake.”
Jake Cinninger previously missed the group’s most recent gig on February 26 at the Suwannee Amp Jam #2 festival in Live Oak, Florida. The band also cited “personal reasons” for Cinninger’s absence at Amp Jam.
Umphrey’s McGee launches the tour tomorrow (Tuesday, March 10) with their first of two shows at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California. Additional stops follow in Los Angeles, Menlo Park (California), Stateline (Nevada), Portland, Seattle, Eugene (Oregon), Bend (Oregon), Spokane (Washington), Missoula (Montana), Jackson (Wyoming) and Park City (Utah) through March 29.
Jake Cinninger joined Umphrey’s McGee in 2000 and has been an integral part of the band’s sound on stage and in the studio over the past 25 years. The group has occasionally performed without him in the past, including select shows in 2022 when he missed gigs due to a family emergency.
