After stepping off the Sphere stage Friday night in Las Vegas, Dead & Company overcame U2 as the band with the most shows played at the technologically-enhanced venue.
Show 11 of the 2025 Dead Forever residency was #41 overall for the band made up of Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir and drummer Mickey Hart with guitarist John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and drummer Jay Lane. Fellow venue residents the Eagles have played 32 Sphere shows to date.
Friday’s setlist offered a few notable selections, starting in the first set with “Help On The Way” segueing into its usual instrumental companion piece “Slipknot!” Though with “Franklin’s Tower” likely off the table following its appearance on Thursday night, the third part of the sequence was filled by “Cumberland Blues,” which saw Burbridge jubilantly stomping around the stage.
The second set presented the 2025 Dead Forever residency’s first arrival of “Lost Sailor” and its typical adjoining of “Saint Of Circumstance.” Dead & Co. also covered Wilson Pickett’s blues classic “In The Midnight Hour” for just the seventh time while it made its first Sphere appearance this year.
A rare pre-“Drums/Space” version of “Morning Dew” instead led into the nightly rhythmic and free-form musical excursion. “Althea” and “Uncle John’s Band” both made atypically late in the show appearances in the post-“Drums/Space” part of the second set.
