Dead & Company performed one long set in Philadelphia due to weather as Tropical Storm Henri sat off the Northeast coast. D&C fit in a number of Grateful Dead classics into the jam-heavy set on Saturday at Philly’s Citizens Bank Park.

Although the show was tagged “A Hurricane’s A Comin’ Set,” Mother Nature also provided rainbows and an atmosphere that put the Philly crowd in a particularly energetic mood. Guitarist Bob Weir delivered a spirited vocal performance on “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo” to get things underway and got a rise out the audience on the “prayed for better weather” line. The chorus contained a round-like vocal section led by guitarist John Mayer followed by a barroom piano section from keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The final chorus gave way to Mayer adding some buoyant guitar on the “Rio Grandi-o” section which melted into “Alabama Getaway” with John handling lead vocals.

Next, Weir and Mayer shared vocal duties on “Jack Straw.” The Philly audience swelled the band into the second verse, which contains the line “the eagles filled the sky,” before the sextet locked into a groove ahead of the song’s conclusion. Mayer then manned a festive “Franklin’s Tower” that stretched to 13 minutes as a rainbow arched over Citizens Bank Park. Next, Bobby sang one of his signature tunes, “Estimated Prophet,” which contained some tight backing vocal harmonies. Another 13-minute excursion on “Sugaree” followed which saw Mayer and Weir once again sharing vocal duties and John ramping things up with some smokin’ blues-tinged soloing

The band then delivered the “Lady With A Fan” and “Terrapin Station” sections of the “Terrapin” suite before exploring “The Other One” which then led into Rhythm Devils Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart‘s “Drums” and “Space” segment. The favorite “The Wheel” would emerge from “Space.” A monster “Morning Dew” closed out the long set. Dead & Company encored with another signature Bobby number, the fitting “One More Saturday Night,” before bringing the evening to a close with “Brokedown Palace.”
