David Gilmour Honors Prince At Royal Albert Hall In London

By Scott Bernstein Apr 25, 2016 8:02 am PDT

Last night, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour played the famed Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the venue’s string of benefits for Teenage Cancer Trust. Gilmour worked a tribute to Prince, the legendary performer who died on Thursday, within his final song of the evening.

The guitarist said farewell for the night with a version of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb.” David Gilmour and his band transitioned from “Comfortably Numb” to Prince’s “Purple Rain” as the stage was bathed in purple light. Gilmour is no stranger to “Purple Rain” having performed the song in the past including a TV appearance with Tom Jones in 1992. No words were spoken from the guitarist as he soloed on “Purple Rain” though the backing singers did sing the “ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh” refrain. The rest of the night featured the typical Rattle That Lock Tour setlist, a mix of solo and Pink Floyd material.
