Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds Play Three Tour Debuts In Padua

Guitarists Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds continued the Italian portion of their European Tour with a performance at Gran Teatro Geox in Padua on Thursday. The pair stuck with tour staples for the majority of their 25-song performance but did fit three tour debuts into the setlist.

Dave and Tim opened with a pair of “things” in the form of “Little Thing” and “Jimi Thing.” The evening’s first tour debut came a few songs later when the duo played “Spaceman” for its initial performance since February’s event in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Cuban musician Carlos Varela has been a regular guest on the run and last night he led his own “Muros y Puertas” and joined Matthews for the third movement of Bach’s “Cello Suite No. 1 In G Major.”

The biggest surprise of the concert came over a dozen songs in when Matthews and Reynolds dusted off the Under The Table And Dreaming gem “Lover Lay Down.” Dave and Tim hadn’t performed the song during one of their duo shows since December 11, 2009. The final tour debut of the evening was played towards the end of the main set as the pair unearthed “The Best Of What’s Around.” Matthews and Reynolds concluded the show with a bevy of fan-favorites in “Dancing Nancies,” “Grey Street,” “Two Step” and “Ants Marching.”
