Dave Matthews Band Welcomes Dave Pietro At SPAC Opener
By Scott Bernstein Jul 16, 2016 • 9:17 am PDT

SPAC in Saratoga Springs, New York has become a second home of sorts for the Dave Matthews Band. DMB first played the shed in 1994 and have played at least one show at SPAC each and every summer they’ve toured since 1996 with the exception of just one year, 1999. Last night the group kicked off this year’s SPAC run with their 36th show at the venue.
Matthews & Co. treated Capital District fans to a 20-song performance heavy on tour staples and featuring a guest appearance from a saxophonist. DMB opened with the tour’s first “So Right” and just the third “Recently” since September. “Raven” returned after a 24-show layoff and the set also included such beloved classics as “Warehouse,” “Satellite,” “Crush,” “Seek Up” and “Too Much.” Saxophonist Dave Pietro emerged towards the end of the set to add to “Grey Street.” An interesting moment came when Dave played a few bars of “Proudest Monkey” before starting up “Satellite.” Last night’s show will also be best remembered for one of the most impressive jams of the tour as Friday’s “Seek Up” spanned nearly 20 stellar minutes. The band said farewell with a “Sister”/”Granny”/”Tripping Billies” encore. DMB returns to SPAC tonight.
Videographer aerofan2007 captured the entire show. Here’s a playlist which as of press time includes everything up to “Seek Up.” We’ll continue to update the playlist throughout the day.
