The next installment of the Dave Matthews Band‘s Live Trax live archival series features audio of the group’s April 29, 2009 concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park in Alpharetta, Georgia. Live Trax Vol. 55 arrives on April 27 and is currently available for pre-order on CD and as MP3 and FLAC files.
DMB’s second of two April 2009 shows in Alpharetta came just five weeks before the release of Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King, the band’s seventh studio album and first after the death of saxophonist LeRoi Moore. Big Whiskey & The GrooGrux King was represented in the setlist by performances of “Funny The Way It Is,” “Why I Am” and “Spaceman.”

Special guest Joe Lawlor joined the group on electric guitar for “Rhyme & Reason” in the middle of their main set. The evening also featured the debuts of “Rye Whiskey” and “Beach Ball.” A number of classics were played such as “Everyday,” “Satellite,” “Crash Into Me” and “Jimi Thing.” The latter began a seamless segment that also included “So Much To Say,” “Anyone Seen The Bridge,” a “Too Much” fakeout and “Tripping Billies.”
Dave Matthews Band ended their main set in Alpharetta with an expansive “Two Step” that spanned over 17 minutes. For the encore, DMB paired a cover of Daniel Lanois’ “The Maker” with their own “Stay (Wasting Time).”
