Dave Matthews Band Live Covers Spotify Playlist
Dave Matthews Band, like most other touring musicians, was forced to cancel most of their shows this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The veteran road warriors typically spend many months each year on the road performing concerts around the world, which they’ve done regularly since forming in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991.
Part of the early-1990s jam scene, by the end of that decade DMB’s popularity exploded, primarily fueled by college students who were as passionate about their live shows as they were the band’s platinum-selling albums. While Dave Matthews Band’s success both in the studio and on the live stage is due largely to the band’s crossover hit originals like “Crash Into Me,” “What Would You Say,” “Too Much” and “Tripping Billies” the setlists they prepare for their concerts often incorporate covers by a variety of other musicians.
This edition of Saturday Stream presents a Spotify Playlist constructed of DMB performing covers live in concert over the course of their nearly three-decades-long touring career. The playlist is made up of 21 covers performed by DMB (and a few by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds), followed by recordings by the originators of each song.
The set contains multiple covers of songs by Neil Young and Daniel Lanois, alongside DMB and Dave & Tim versions of songs by Bob Dylan, John Prine, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, Bob Marley, The Allman Brothers Band, Pink Floyd, Sly & The Family Stone, Led Zeppelin and others. The playlist begins with Dave Matthews Band and Dave & Tim live recordings, followed by the same sequence of songs recorded by the original artists. Stream below:
