Dave Matthews appeared in a segment for CBS This Morning. The Dave Matthews Band leader spoke about his and the group’s charity efforts, particularly in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Dave Matthews Band formed in Charlottesville in 1991. Matthews and his band mates have donated over $40 million to charitable organizations in the decades since. The group recently made a $5 million donation that will go toward the renovation of an apartment complex to create a new public housing complex in Charlottesville. The goal is to replace all 376 of the city’s current public housing units.

“The inequities and the lack of access that some people experience, like in this town, like every town, seems like it should be remedied,” Matthews told John Dickerson. “And we are fortunate enough to be able to at least push it in the right direction.”

The interview also touched on the September 2017 “A Concert For Charlottesville” held at UVA Scott Stadium that DMB headlined alongside Pharrell Williams, Justin Timberlake, Chris Stapleton, Ariana Grande, Brittany Howard, The Roots and Stevie Wonder. The free concert was organized in response to the violent and deadly white supremacist rally that occurred in Charlottesville in August 2017.

The interview ended on a lighter note with Matthews revealing his retirement plans. Watch all four parts below:
