Esteemed singer-songwriters Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore stopped by KEXP studios in July to perform for the Seattle-based independent radio station’s Live on KEXP series. The pair and band performed songs from their new album, TexiCali.
Downey, California’s own Dave Alvin and Texas troubadour Jimmie Dale Gilmore have been key figures in the bands The Blasters and The Flatlanders respectively and have also helmed successful solo careers. They teamed as a duo in 2018 for the record Downey to Lubbock.

Alvin and Gilmore now have a new record out, TexiCali, which arrived on June 21. A month later, while on tour around the LP, the singer-songwriters and Alvin’s band The Guilty Ones — drummer Lisa Pankratz, bassist Brad Fordham and guitarist Chris Miller — popped into the KEXP studios in Seattle.
The quintet kicked off the session with TexiCali closer, “We’re Still Here.” The album’s “Roll Around” and “Death Of The Last Stripper” followed. Alvin and Gilmore wrapped the session with TexiCali’s “Blind Owl.”
