In April, drummer Cotter Ellis played his first official show as a member of Goose. The Burlington, Vermont-based percussionist co-founded the band Swimmer, and performed with several other groups prior to joining Goose.
The move propelled Ellis to many new and unforgettable experiences over the past several months. As 2024 winds down — Goose and Ellis will ring in the New Year with shows tonight and tomorrow in Austin, Texas — JamBase reached out to have the drummer share his Top 10 Moments from his first year behind the kit with the band.
Starting with that first show in April, read on for Cotter Ellis’ most memorable experiences onstage with Goose in 2024.

1. First Cap Show
The way I was ushered into the world of Goose by both the band and the fans was utterly heartwarming. Show number one was equally nerve wracking and liberating — my body and mind were vibrating as I moved through a whirlwind of catharsis.

2. The Mann
This show was just insane. “No Rain” with Rogers Stevens! Plus, we ripped one of my favorite jams of the year, a cover of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes.”

3. Forest Hills
On top of Forest Hills Stadium being easily one of the coolest venues in the country, this was a huge show for the band. Musically, the night was highlighted by my first “Travelers > Elmeg” – it hit hard and deep. To make it even more surreal, a serene summer rain began to fall the instant we hit our final note.

4. PNC
At PNC, we debuted my original song, “Draconian Meter Maid,” one I used to perform with my previous band, Swimmer. It was amazing to see the tune come to life on a big stage and it was a huge moment for both me and the guys in Swimmer.

5. SPAC
I’ve seen my favorite bands play at SPAC countless times over the past decade. It was unreal to step onto that stage and see all of the spots I’ve stood in over the years, having my mind blown.

6. Salt Shed
Julian Lage. Fat jams. Epic crowd energy.
7. St. Pete Halloween
Halloween. Stranger Things. Dressing up as a little girl and playing a bunch of fire ’80s covers.

8. Cincinnati Run
Similar to our Chicago run, we had three nights to get comfortable and settled in. That extra time allowed us to really dig in — it showed in every performance.

9. MSG (Soulshine)
Obviously. Mind-blowing experience hanging out with and playing alongside some of my musical heroes in the most legendary venue in the world.
10. Goosemas
The most fun I’ve ever had. The “Bingo Live” theme was a perfect match for the spirit of jam band music. The set and production, silliness, rock and roll.
