Goose Puts Shine On Father John Misty ‘Pure Comedy’ Gem In Cincinnati

Goose once again pulled from the catalog of past collaborator Father John Misty by debuting a cover of another of Josh Tillman’s songs during their concert Friday at Cincinnati’s Andrew J Brady Music Center. Guitarist Rick-Mitarotonda sang lead on the band’s first public offering of “So I’m Growing Old On Magic Mountain.”

Goose first covered Father John Misty in 2020 when they added his song “I’m Writing A Novel” into their live repertoire. The band covered it with Tillman sitting in and singing lead during their 2022 Radio City Music Hall concert. Another FJM original, “Well, You Can Do It Without Me,” was covered by Goose, once, also in 2020.

Recorded by Tillman for the third Father John Misty album, 2017’s Pure Comedy, “So I’m Growing Old On Magic Mountain” was played by Goose as the penultimate song of Friday’s second set.

For Friday’s encore, Mitarotonda strapped on his new DeLuis guitar dubbed “Dracul” ahead of the “Turn On Your Love Light” that ended the show.
