One of the best new bands to come out of 2016 was The Claypool Lennon Delirium led by bassist Les Claypool and guitarist Sean Lennon. The band put out an impressive debut album, Monolith Of Phobos, and impressed audiences at festivals and their own headlining shows throughout the year.
On August 26 Les and Sean, along with keyboardist Paul Drungle and Paulo Baldi, brought The Claypool Lennon Delirium to the House Of Blues in Boston. The city’s local PBS station was on hand to record the show for an installment of WGBH’s Front Row Boston. Not only was the performance sensational, but the resulting footage gives a fantastic look at what makes the quartet so special. WGBH recently posted the entire concert for our viewing pleasure with covers cut out, though still available for viewing.
The quartet kicked off the gig with both movements of Monolith Of Phobos’s “Cricket And The Genie.” Claypool & Co. go on to fit many of the best songs from the LP within the set including the title track, “Boomerang Baby” and “Mr. Wright.” The Claypool Lennon Delirium was high on King Crimson covers and within the set they worked in “Thela Hun Ginjeet” and “In The Court Of The Crimson King.” Additionally, the group ended the main set with The Beatles’ “Tomorrow Never Knows” before treating the crowd to a double dose of Primus songs in the encore. Watch most of the show in the first video below followed by links to the King Crimson covers and “Tomorrow Never Knows”:
