Chicago Cubs Manager Blames Error On AC/DC Concert

On Sept. 15 legendary rockers AC/DC brought the Rock Or Bust Tour to Chicago’s Wrigley Field. According to Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon the stadium’s infield hasn’t been the same since.

“Since the AC/DC concert, we’ve had a little bit of trouble,” Maddon said at a recent press conference according to the Chicago Tribune. “I don’t know if they were out there taking ground balls before the game, or if they had 9-inch heels or spikes.” The manager didn’t want the press blaming shortstop Starlin Castro for an error made on Monday, “They totally messed up the infield, and it has nothing to do with the groundskeepers. I’ve seen a bad hop at third, and a bad hop at second. I didn’t see one bad hop all year. We’ve just got to get it ironed out because I think Starlin (Castro) has done a nice job at second base. I don’t want anyone blaming him on that error. It was a weird hop.”

Yesterday, Maddon told the Tribune he was just kidding with his remarks about AC/DC. When asked if he had any problems with the field he responded, “Zero, zilch, nada. It was an attempt at weak humor (Monday) so I was guilty of that, and I can be very weak at times.” However the Tribune’s Paul Sullivan reports “some in the Cubs clubhouse complained about the conditions” before the team’s first game following the AC/DC concert. Sullivan wrote a column pushing for Cubs management to end the Wrigley concert era. Foo Fighters, Zac Brown Band and Billy Joel also performed at Wrigley Field this summer.
