As reported, yesterday acclaimed singer-songwriter Bob Dylan was feted with the Nobel Prize In Literature. In honor of Dylan becoming the first American to be given the award since 1993, CBS Sunday Morning profiled a treasure trove of items housed at The University Of Tulsa’s Bob Dylan Archive.
Dylan sold The University Of Tulsa his extensive collection of ephemera from throughout his storied career for an undisclosed amount of money. The Oklahoma-based school was chosen in part because it’s located in the home state of Dylan’s idol Woody Guthrie. Housed at the university’s Helmerich Center For American Research, the Dylan archive includes over 6,000 items such as “never-before-seen handwritten manuscripts, notebooks and correspondence; films, videos, photographs and artwork; memorabilia; personal documents; unrecorded song lyrics and chords.”
Currently closed to the public, the archive’s collection – which also comprises Dylan’s entire musical catalog master tapes and hundreds of hours of film and video footage – is expected to be made available for public viewing in the near future. Watch the CBS segment reported by Jane Pauley below:
