Carlos Varela Guests With Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds In Dublin

By Scott Bernstein Mar 24, 2017 11:03 am PDT

Last year Dave Matthews embarked on a trip to Cuba in which he struck up a friendship with Cuban musician Carlos Varela. Dave wound up performing with Carlos a few times later in the year and the pair collaborated once again last night as part of Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds‘ European tour stop at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin, Ireland.

Carlos Varela led Dave and Tim through his own “Muros y Puertas” in the middle of the pair’s main set. While Matthews had performed the song with Varela twice last November, Thursday night was the first time it made its way into a Dave and Tim show. The duo wound up playing just one long set in Dublin as opposed to the two set format featured during the pair’s tour-opening two-night stand in London.

“Out Of My Hands,” “Continue,” “Grace Is Gone,” “Manfood” and “Ants Marching” were the other tour debuts performed in Dublin on Thursday. “Continue” and “Manfood” were played solo by Tim Reynolds. “Ants Marching” was part of a four-song, two-part encore that also included “Gravedigger,” “You Might Die Trying” and “The Space Between.” Next up for Dave & Tim is a concert in Groningen, Netherlands on Saturday.
