Husband and wife singer-songwriter duo Buddy Miller and Julie Miller continue their Public Service Songs series with “Public Service Song #5: Get Offa My Money” via New West Records. All proceeds will benefit Black Lives Matter.
Premiered by American Songwriter, the publication described the song as a “thundering musical mallet. Barebones in body but deafening in delivery, the husband and wife duo take turns exploiting the ‘do as I say, not as I do’ lifestyles of some of our nation’s most revered men.”
Julie Miller also spoke about the track with American Songwriter:
I was so shocked to find out from a documentary that many of the architects of democracy were slaveholders. Even the writer of the glorious words ‘… we hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal…” then packed up and went home to many slaves. I was disgusted. Then I realized my black friends were having to touch the slave owners pictures every time they used money. It is insane and cannot continue.
