Following the last commercial break Stewart introduced Springsteen by saying, “An artist I really admire once said that he thinks of his career as a long conversation with the audience — a dialogue.” The host went on to explain that is how he sees his own role on The Daily Show. With that Jon said he had one final “Moment Of Zen” for the show at which point Bruce Springsteen and members of the E Street Band performed both “Land Of Hopes & Dreams” and portions of “Born To Run.” Watch how it went down:

The last time Bruce helped a late night host end their run was in 1993, when he appeared on David Letterman’s final episode as host of Late Night. Springsteen and the E Street Band hadn’t performed together publicly in over a year before last night’s appearance. Bruce’s performance was just the end of a wonderful final episode featuring many of the program’s former and current correspondents including Steven Colbert, Steve Carrell and Ed Helms.
