Bruce Hornsby Guests With The String Cheese Incident On This Date In 2001
By Scott Bernstein Feb 15, 2017 • 1:30 pm PST

Colorado jam act The String Cheese Incident kicked off 2001 with three nights at The Fillmore Auditorium February 15 – 17. Each night featured a different opening act and each opening act wound up guesting with SCI later in the evening. On this date in 2001 famed pianist Bruce Hornsby played a set of his own before joining The String Cheese Incident for a portion of the band’s first set.
The one-time Grateful Dead keyboardist emerged towards the end of SCI’s first set. Hornsby led The String Cheese Incident through the SCI debut of “Grandma’s Hands” by Bill Withers. Next up from the Bruce/Cheese pairing was an expansive “Don’t Say” that featured a fantastic piano solo from Hornsby. The ensemble eventually worked the “Don’t Say” jam into a cover of “I’ve Just Seen A Face” by The Beatles. SCI’s first set also included the debut of “SKAT,” aka “Some Kind Of African Tune.” Stream/download The String Cheese Incident’s entire show from this date in 2001 below.
