The Brother Brothers Release New Hometown-Inspired Single ‘The Illinois River Song’

The Brother Brothers – the duo made up of identical twin brothers Adam Moss and David Moss – released a new single inspired by their hometown, “The Illinois River Song.” The multi-instrumentalist siblings confirmed the forthcoming release of a new album of original music, which will be their first since 2021.

“The Illinois River Song” was inspired by The Brother Brothers’ hometown of Peoria, Illinois. The track features the twins supported by bassist Bridget Kearney of Lake Street Dive and multi-instrumentalist John Fatum on percussion.

On social media, The Brother Brothers promised, “[A] lot of new music on the horizon, and a lot of musical journeys ahead.” The duo’s sophomore album, Calla Lily was issued in 2021. The pair followed with a full length album of covers, Cover To Cover, which came out in 2022. Their third album, The January Album, does not yet have a release date.

Describing the new single, The Brother Brothers detailed their first original song released since 2021, writing:

“‘The Illinois River Song’ was inspired by our hometown of Peoria, Illinois. Growing up in a river town in the modern era still has remnants and hints of the past. Traditional commerce was always done by the river and where there’s big business, there’s always lost souls.

“Our hometown when we were growing was a Caterpillar (inc) town, and was litmus test for the health of the greater economy. When the layoffs began, there were always lost souls …

“The heartland of America can be one of the most beautiful places in the country, and we wanted to highlight that, but also reinforce its slowness to progress with much of the rest of the country.”
