Broken Bells, The Shins’ James Mercer and renowned producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton), will issue a new album, Into The Blue, on October 7 via AWAL. The duo also shared a new single, “Saturdays.”
Broken Bells previewed their third LP and first album in eight years following 2014’s After The Disco with the advance Into The Blue track, “We're Not In Orbit Yet...,” which arrived in late June. The new record is the first from Broken Bells to feature both samples and organic sounds from Mercer and Burton.

Into The Blue also sees the friends and collaborators continuing to explore their mutual love of the eclectic. The album contains sounds ranging “From The Beatles to Pink Floyd, from ‘60s psychedelia to 70s rock and AM Gold, from ‘80s New Wave to ‘90s Trip Hop… and of course the formative Elephant 6 collective,” as per a press release.
The LP’s sixth track and new single, “Saturdays,” falls in the ‘60s psychedelia category. “The song sees Burton and Mercer crafting a signature Broken Bells study in contrasts, as sweetly sung and melancholy lyrics float atop a backdrop of sun-drenched melodies that conjure a late summer weekend afternoon,” the press release noted. “Directed by Johnny Chew, the video for ‘Saturdays’ aptly suits the song’s timeless retro-modern sonic palette with visuals inspired by the concept of traveling through space and time.”
