Brendan Bayliss & Jake Cinninger Present 14th Annual Holiday Show

Umphrey’s McGee guitarists Brendan Bayliss and Jake Cinninger continued a long standing tradition by presenting their 14th Annual Holiday Show. In typical fashion, the pair and friends mixed mostly acoustic originals and choice covers at Park West in Chicago on Saturday night. Proceeds benefited the Jerry Cummins’ “I Love Math” scholarship fund and the Illinois Alzheimer’s Association.
The evening began with a set from UM keyboardist Joel Cummins that included his own “Orfeo,” the Allmans classic “Jessica” and more. Brendan and Jake started their set by themselves with “In The Kitchen” and “Going To California.” They were then joined by Cummins on keys and Andy Farag on drums. Some of the covers the ensemble played on Saturday were “Transdermal Celebration” by Ween, the Motown classic “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg,” Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire” and “Watching The Wheels” by John Lennon. Pedal steel wiz Mike Racky also added to portions of the performance.
M.C. Barry Brown started the encore by jumping on piano to play “Come Sail Away” by Styx with help from Jake. The ensemble then covered The Doors’ “L.A. Woman,” but changed a few of the lyrics to reference the holiday season as “L.A. Santa.” Up next was the mash-up “Bittersweet Haji” before the show came to a close with a cover of Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home.”
