Brandi Carlile appears on this weekend’s season premiere of Austin City Limits. Carlile launches the 48th season of ACL with her third appearance on the long-running live music television program. Video of the singer-songwriter leading her band through “You And Me On The Rock” has been shared ahead of the episode debuting this Saturday, October 1 at 8 p.m. CT/9 p.m. ET on PBS.
“You And Me On The Rock” is featured on Carlile’s 2021 album, In These Silent Days. Brandi discussed time spent at “vacation bible school” while growing up and doing an assignment about building your house on the rock. “I didn’t really get the metaphor as a kid, but I loved it,” the singer-songwriter exclaimed on stage at ACL Live at The Moody Theater. “So I grew up and became a big happy gay, and during the lockdown, I was in my garden one day and I hadn’t seen anybody in a long time and everything I thought that made me who I was went away. And I looked around and I saw my wife and my little girls and I thought, alright, I did it, I built my house on a rock. And it made me really proud!”
A total of 11 songs from Brandi’s July taping in Austin will air on this weekend’s episode of ACL including “You And Me On The Rock,” “The Joke,” a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock” and more. “All of us are so proud of Brandi’s incredible success story since her debut on the ACL stage 12 years ago,” said ACL Executive Producer Terry Lickona in a press release. “Her growth not only as a singer but as a superstar entertainer in every sense of the word is inspiring. She helped lead the way for a new generation of talented young female artists, many of whom will be showcased in future episodes.”
