Twin Cities Singing Resistance Joins Brandi Carlile At ‘Be Human: A Concert For Minneapolis’

Brandi Carlile brought out members of the Twin Cities Singing Resistance at the end of her concert at the sold-out Target Center in Minneapolis on Saturday night. The “Be Human: A Concert For Minneapolis” performance also saw openers The Head and the Heart also share the stage with Carlile and her bandmates.

Local Singing Resistance members emerged at the end of the special show. Carlile sang a verse of “Girl From The North Country” by Minnesota native Bob Dylan as the Singing Resistance members filled the Target Center stage. The group accompanied Carlile on the song “It’s Okay To Change Your Mind,” which has been their anthem at protests against ICE’s Metro Surge presence in the Twin Cities over the past several months.

Calling it her “home,” at various points throughout the show, Carlile spoke about her affection and admiration for Minneapolis and the surrounding communities impacted by ICE actions in the region. “Be Human: A Concert for Minneapolis,” which was broadcast on local public radio station The Current and livestreamed via Veeps, raised funds for The Advocates For Human Rights, generating more than $600,000.

Openers The Head And The Heart came out at the beginning of the encore and participated in a cover of Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida.”
