Brandi Carlile Covers Leonard Cohen For ‘Spotify Singles’

Brandi Carlile recently stopped by Spotify Studios in New York City to record a session for the streaming platform’s Spotify Sessions series. The singer-songwriter played a song from her new album By The Way, I Forgive You and covered a beloved Leonard Cohen original.

Carlile’s live performance began with “The Joke,” one of the 10 songs making up By The Way, I Forgive You. The record was co-produced by Shooter Jennings and Dave Cobb. Cobb is credited with co-writing “The Joke,” along with Carlile’s regular collaborators Phil Hanseroth and Tim Hanseroth.

The Spotify Singles sessions also produced Carlile’s arrangement of Cohen’s frequently covered “Hallelujah.” Stream both live tracks below:
