Bonnie Raitt & John Prine Perform ‘Angel From Montgomery’ On ‘Austin City Limits’

Bonnie Raitt teamed with John Prine for a rendition of “Angel From Montgomery” at this year’s Americana Honors ceremony in Nashville. Raitt and Prine’s performance of the song is featured in this weekend’s episode of PBS live music television series Austin City Limits. Video of “Angel From Montgomery” has been shared by ACL and can be viewed below.
The upcoming installment of ACL’s Season 45 contains performance highlights from the 2019 Americana Honors ceremony, which took place at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on September 11. Our Native Daughters, Mumford & Sons, Yola, Brandi Carlile, I’m With Her, Mavis Staples and Elvis Costello are among the acts featured in the episode, which premieres this Saturday, November 23 at 8 p.m. CT on most PBS stations. Look for the hourlong special via pbs.org/austincitylimits beginning at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday, November 24.
John Prine originally wrote “Angel From Montgomery” for inclusion on his self-titled 1971 studio album. Bonnie Raitt went on to record the song for Streetlights, her 1974 studio album and “Angel From Montgomery” has long been a staple of her live sets. Ben Harper, Susan Tedeschi, Old Crow Medicine Show, Tanya Tucker and Maren Morris are just a few other artists who have released covers of “Angel From Montgomery.”
