Singer-songwriter Bonnie Raitt has been forced to cancel her upcoming tour with James Taylor. Raitt will soon undergo surgery that will keep her away from the stage while recovering.

Raitt, who performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Saturday, posted a message on Facebook revealing her need to cancel the upcoming tour. The 68-year-old Raitt recently discovered the need for surgery following a routine annual examination. According to Raitt’s message, her “prognosis is good and a full recovery is expected.”

James Taylor will now present “Evening With James Taylor & His All-Star Band” two-set performances on the tour beginning on May 8 in Jacksonville, Florida. Sheryl Crow will appear with Taylor on May 29 in Phoenix and on May 31 and June 1 in Hollywood.

Raitt is expected to rejoin Taylor when the tour comes to St. Paul, Minnesota on June 22. Here’s Bonnie’s note:

I’m deeply sorry to have to disappoint my fans, James and colleagues with these cancellations. I was so looking forward to our tour, but I’m very grateful that the doctors feel this can be taken care of with surgery. I’m feeling strong and am in great hands with my wonderful team. I fully expect to return for the second leg of the US tour in June followed by our European tour in July.

Thank you all for your concern and understanding that the best gift you could give me is respecting my wish for privacy and giving me space to heal. Can’t wait to see you all back on the road again soon!
