Bon Iver took the stage on Wednesday for the first time since the pandemic began to headline the Water Is Life festival at Bayfront Waterfront Park in Duluth, Minnesota. Justin Vernon and company played six originals and pair of covers last night.

The event also included performances from Mumu Fresh, Hippo Campus, Lissie, Adia Victoria and others. “Featuring an unprecedented coalition of musicians, artists, poets, and Indigenous leaders this one-day festival is a celebration of water as the fundamental life-giving resource of Mother Earth, and a full-throttle resistance in music and song against the Line 3 tar sands oil pipeline currently snaking its way through the waterways and Anishinaabe lands of northern Minnesota,” stated an announcement of the festival.

Bon Iver opened with “Flume” from their debut album, 2007’s For Emma, Forever Ago. The band then performed “666 ʇ,” “Blood Bank” and “29 #Strafford APTS.” The former and latter are off 2016’s 22, A Million as is the “00000 Million” that followed a cover of Leon Russell’s “A Song For You.” Bon Iver capped the set with For Emma, Forever Ago’s “Creature Fear” and a take on Bob Dylan’s “With God On Our Side.”

Proceeds from the event benefit Honor The Earth, a non-profit fighting against the construction of Line 3 in Native treaty Lands. Watch fan-shot video from Bon Iver’s set captured by Phil Roe:
