On June 29 we learned the shocking news that famed bassist Rob Wasserman had died. Wasserman had played with a who’s who of musicians, but is probably best known to our readership for his many collaborations with Bob Weir including lengthy stints in RatDog. Last night Rob’s RatDog band mates and special guests came together to honor him at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California.
Wednesday night’s performance featured a mixture of RatDog lineups including Weir, Steve Kimock, Mark Karan, Dave Ellis, Robin Sylvester, Jeff Chimenti and Jay Lane. Other guests included Lukas Nelson and DJ Logic as well as a very special appearance from Gov’t Mule after their show in Rohnert Park.
RatDog’s time on stage included takes on “Friend Of The Devil,” “A Hard Rain’s A Gonna Fall,” “West L.A. Fadeaway” and “I Shall Be Released” with Nelson guesting on the latter three and DJ Logic adding to “West L.A.” A Gov’t Mule takeover featured members of RatDog on “That’s What Love Will Make You Do,” “Low Spark Of High-Heeled Boys” and “Riders On The Storm.” Check out a series of videos from the event below:
