Bob Weir, Phil Lesh & Others Join Jackie Greene Band At The Warfield

Last night The Warfield in San Francisco hosted Jackie Greene’s hometown birthday show. The concert was filled with a slew of special guests, including Grateful Dead founding members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh sharing the stage together.

The Jackie Greene Band was joined by multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby throughout the show, assisting from the start during a first set that also saw guitarist Mark Karan sit-in on several selections. The set featured the guests on a cover of Traffic’s “Medicated Goo” and The Allman Brothers Band’s “Hot ‘Lanta” with Bruce Spencer also guesting with the group.

Weir then came out to lead an acoustic mini-set that began with his “Gonesville” and “Lay My Lily Down” off his new solo album Blue Mountain. The acoustic set also saw takes on Greene’s “Gone Wanderin’” and “Light Up Your Window” as well as the Dead’s “Ripple.”

More Grateful Dead followed during the final set of the night, with Weir helping out on “Jack Straw” and The Temptations’ “Standing On Shaky Ground” ahead of Lesh’s emergence. The bassist brought along vocalist Nicki Bluhm and Greene’s brother Alex Nelson on keys for “Scarlet Begonias” > “Fire On The Mountain.” The set continued with “Dark Star” featuring Greene’s “I’m So Gone” played within, “Shakedown Street,” a take on Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall (Pt. 2)” and the closing pairing of “China Cat Sunflower” and “I Know You Rider” with Ross James sitting-in.

All of the guests joined in presenting Greene a cake and sang “Happy Birthday” to start the encore. “Sugaree” was chosen as the final song of the celebratory collaborative evening at The Warfield. Watch audience-shot footage from last night’s show:
