Watch Bob Weir & Lyle Lovett Perform ‘Friend Of The Devil’ For eTown

Boulder, Colorado-based radio program eTown recently honored the show’s 30th birthday by presenting an all-star eTown 30th b’Earthday Celebration livestream special. Performances from the special recently appeared on YouTube including a “Friend Of The Devil” played by Bob Weir and Lyle Lovett along with eTown host Nick Forster.

Jerry Garcia, John Dawson and Robert Hunter wrote “Friend Of The Devil” which was originally released by the Grateful Dead on 1970’s American Beauty. Weir played the song hundreds of times with the Dead through 1995 and then performed numerous renditions with various post-Jerry bands.

Lovett contributed a take on “Friend Of The Devil” to the 1991 Grateful Dead tribute album Deadicated. He performed the song live 10 times between 1992 and 2000 as per Setlist.FM. Bobby and Lyle shared lead vocals on “Friend Of The Devil” for eTown with Forster providing mandolin.
