Bob Weir Guests At Heart Of Gold Band Reunion In Mill Valley: Photos, Videos & Setlist

On Monday night the Heart Of Gold Band reunited at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California on the anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s birthday. Vocalist Donna Jean Godchaux Mackay, who sang with the Grateful Dead over a large portion of the ’70s, was a founding member of the Heart Of Gold Band with her husband Keith Godchaux, guitarist Steve Kimock, drummer Greg Anton, bassist Dexter LaBlanc and vocalist Greta Rose in 1980. Donna Jean reunited with Kimock and Anton as well as a lineup that also featured David Mackay and Mookie Siegel. Sweetwater proprietor and Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir joined in the fun for a portion of show as did Brian Godchaux.
The Heart Of Gold Band played a mix of material from their brief tenure together as well as Grateful Dead and other assorted covers. Bobby emerged at the end of the first set to lead the group through “Scarlet Begonias,” “West L.A. Fadeaway” and “New Speedway Boogie.” The second set included the group’s takes on Jimmy Cliff’s “The Harder They Come,” Bob Dylan’s “Watching The River Flow,” the Dead’s “Sugaree” and “Crazy Fingers,” George Harrison’s “Isn’t It A Pity” and more.
