Legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan has been awarded the Nobel Prize In Literature. Dylan is the first American to be given the prestigious honor since author Toni Morrison in 1993.

The announcement today stated Dylan was being given the Nobel Prize in Literature, “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.” The 75-year-old iconic folk musician has previously earned Grammy Awards, an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. He has also been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and earned Pulitzer Prize and been given the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Dylan will perform in Indio, California for the second Desert Trip weekend at Empire Polo Grounds. His performance last weekend included many of his most beloved – and now rarely performed – songs.
