Sunday night Gov’t Mule and Blackberry Smoke paired back up for one more show together following each band’s appearance this weekend at the Lockn’ Festival. Both acts shared the stage for a collaborative encore finale last evening at Iroquois Amphitheater in Louisville.
Mule opened their performance with “Traveling Tune” from their new studio album Revolution Come … Revolution Go and returned to the song following a take on “Banks Of The Deep End” to close out their single set performance. In between guitarist Warren Haynes led the group on “Larger Than Life” with Jimi Hendrix’s “If 6 Was 9” played within, “Frozen Fear” with Led Zeppelin’s “D’yer Mak’er” worked in and a version of Mahavishnu Orchestra’s “Eternity’s Breath” that developed into a jam on the Grateful Dead’s “St. Stephen.”
For the encore Mule – without bassist Jorgen Carlsson – welcomed the all of the members of Blackberry Smoke to the stage as guitarists Charlie Starr and Paul Jackson, keyboardist Brandon Still, drummer Brit Turner and bassist Richard Turner collaborated on a performance of the blues classic “One Way Out,” which was a staple of The Allman Brothers Band’s repertoire. The show concluded with Carlsson taking over for Richard Turner on a collaborative rendition of the ABB favorite “Whipping Post.” View audience-shot video clips of the encore below:
