Billy Strings Performs ‘Away From The Mire’ On ‘Austin City Limits’: Exclusive Premiere

Billy Strings makes his Austin City Limits debut as part of an episode that also features Sarah Jarosz premiering on PBS this Saturday, October 23 at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. JamBase is pleased to preview Strings’ appearance by unveiling the guitarist’s 11-minute “Away From The Mire” performance from the next installment of ACL’s 47th season.

Strings and his band taped their appearance on the legendary live music television show at the program’s home of ACL Live At The Moody Theatre in Austin, Texas on July 7. Billy, mandolinist Jarrod Walker, banjoist Billy Failing and bassist Royal Masat mixed material from Strings’ three albums for the five songs featured on this weekend’s episode. “Away From The Mire” was originally released on the guitarist’s Grammy-winning 2019 studio album, Home. The quartet shows off their improvisational prowess on the lengthy version that ends their ACL debut.

Jarosz returns to Austin City Limits for the third time. Sarah’s portion of the episode goes heavy on songs from World On The Ground, an album produced by John Leventhal released in 2020. The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist also plays a solo cover of the U2 classic “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.”

“Sarah Jarosz and Billy Strings represent the past, present and future of American roots music, and no one else even comes close,” said ACL executive producer Terry Lickona in a press release. “Billy is setting the bluegrass world on fire, and beyond. Meanwhile, in her own quiet and personal way, Sarah continues to expand the horizons of Americana music.”
