Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour Takes Off In Los Angeles

After winning her first Grammy Award for Album Of The Year earlier this year, Beyoncé launched her Cowboy Carter Tour in support of the album Monday night at SoFi Stadium outside Los Angeles. The global pop superstar largely focused on songs from the country-leaning album, flew over the audience on a horseshoe and a low rider, incorporated her children into the production and offered additional selections from her successful catalog.

“I have the best fans in the world,” Beyoncé told the sold-out audience at the end of the nearly three-hour show. “I love you so much. We worked so hard to make this as perfect as we could for y’all. I hope y’all had fun.”

The first performance of the tour-opening five-show run at SoFi Stadium unfolded over the course of eight thematic chapters. As she has before, Blue Ivy Carter – Beyoncé’s daughter with rapper Jay-Z – appeared onstage with her mother. The couple’s daughter Rumi Carter also appeared onstage, marking her first public performance with her mom.

The setlist featured Cowboy Carter versions of The Beatles’ “Blackbird” and Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and the singles “16 Carriages” (while elevated in a flying low rider) and “Texas Hold ‘Em,” alongside other tracks off the award-winning album. Beyoncé also performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” with accompaniment from a recording of Jimi Hendrix’s guitar solo.

One of the chapters was devoted to Beyoncé’s 2022 album, Renaissance. The setlist also pulled from Lemonade, Dangerously In Love and I Am… Sasha Fierce.

The Cowboy Carter Tour continues with four additional shows at SoFi Stadium.
