Legendary keyboardist Bernie Worrell of Parliament-Funkadelic/Talking Heads fame is in a fight for his life as he battles stage four lung cancer. An update on Bernie’s health has been posted on the keyboardist’s Facebook page and sadly the news isn’t good.
Just one month after Bernie was honored and performed at the “All The Woo In The World” benefit concert in New York City, Worrell’s tumor has grown to the extent it is pressing on his vocal cords. As such, the keyboardist can barely speak. He will begin treatment tomorrow that aims to shrink the tumor before the condition worsens and shuts down his breathing. The update mentions Bernie will undergo treatment each weekday until the 18th and soon thereafter an evaluation of the treatment will be made. Worrell still aims to travel to Boston to receive an honorary Doctor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory later this month.
Here’s the Facebook post containing the update on Bernie’s condition.
Our thoughts are with Bernie in hopes he recovers as soon as possible.
