Rock quartet Gov’t Mule continued their Summer Tour on Thursday night at the Red Hat Amphitheater in Raleigh, North Carolina. New Orleans funk act Galactic played a set to open the evening and the band’s Ben Ellman sat-in at various points during Gov’t Mule’s performance.
Gov’t Mule played one long set on Thursday. After opening with “Bad Little Doggie” and “Mr. High & Mighty,” Ellman emerged to add sax to a “Lay Your Burden Down” > “Smokestack Lightning” > “Lay Your Burden Down” sequence. Up next was a segment of Pink Floyd covers: “One Of These Days” > “Fearless.” The band’s new album, Revolution Come…Revolution Go was then represented by “Stone Cold Rage” and the title track.
Thursday’s set rolled on with a cover of Billy Cobham’s “Stratus” followed by “Fool’s Moon,” “Million Miles From Yesterday” and “Slackjaw Jezebel.” From there, Mule played a “Trane” featuring teases of “Norweigan Wood,” “Les Brers” and “Third Stone From The Sun” that they segued into “Eternity’s Breath” and a jam on the Grateful Dead’s “St. Stephen” before finishing “Trane.” Warren Haynes & Co. ended the set with “No Need To Suffer” and an “I’m A Ram” with “Unblow Your Horn” within.
Ben Ellman returned as part of the evening’s “Fallen Down” > “The Other One” jam encore. The tour continues to night at Volvo Car Stadium in Daniel Island, South Carolina.
