Watch The Avett Brothers ‘Pick Up The Tempo’ At Willie Nelson 90th Birthday Celebration

The Avett Brothers shared video of their appearance for Willie Nelson’s 90th Birthday celebration at The Hollywood Bowl. The Avetts offered Willie’s “Pick Up The Tempo” with the performance set to land on the upcoming concert film/live album Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90 Live At The Hollywood Bowl, due out December 15.

The Willie Nelson-penned “Pick Up The Tempo” originally appeared on Waylon Jennings’ 1974 album, This Time, which Nelson produced. A version later appeared on the legendary country duo’s collaborative album Waylon & Willie as well as on the soundtrack to the 1980 film Honeysuckle Rose, which starred Nelson.

Seth Avett led The Avett Brothers — banjo player Scott Avett, cellist Joe Kwon, bassist Bob Crawford and fiddler Tania Elizabeth — along with the Nelson birthday backing band through the swinging country tune for Willie’s 90th birthday celebration which took place on April 29 and 30 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
