Animal Collective today unveiled “Walker,” a single penned in honor of the late Scott Walker from the band’s forthcoming Time Skiffs studio album. “Walker” arrived with a video directed by Abby and Dave Portner.

The nine-track Time Skiffs is due out via Domino on February 4. Animal Collective will embark on a U.S. tour in support of their first new full-length studio album since 2016’s Painting With in March of 2022.

“Mostly ‘Walker’ is a tribute to Scott Walker who passed away around the time I began writing the song,” Animal Collective’s Noah Lennox explained during an interview with Zane Lowe. “Scott’s music has meant a lot to me and he’ll always be a big inspiration. But there’s also a kind of exhaustion and resignation to the singer of ‘Walker’ that belies a darker layer.”

Animal Collective played this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago on September 10. Pitchfork recently shared pro-shot video featuring the first three songs from the quartet’s set. The band opened with Merriweather Post Pavilion classic “In Flowers” and then performed Time Skiffs cuts “Car Keys” and “Dragon Slayer.” Watch the footage below:
