AC/DC Toronto Concert Canceled Due To Severe Storm Damage At Rogers Stadium

AC/DC's September 16 concert at Rogers Stadium in Toronto has been canceled due to severe damage the venue sustained during an extreme weather event last week.

Live Nation Canada announced the cancellation following an assessment conducted by engineers in coordination with the City of Toronto. The review determined sections of Rogers Stadium impacted by the storm will need to be removed and rebuilt.

The Pretty Reckless were slated to open the concert, which was part of AC/DC’s ongoing Power Up Tour. The September 16 performance was scheduled as the band’s second of three Canadian stops this month, following Montreal on September 12 and ahead of Winnipeg on September 20.

“Cancelling a concert is never a decision we want to make, and we know how disappointing this will be for all of us who have been looking forward to seeing AC/DC close out our summer season,” stated Live Nation Canada President of Business Operations Wayne Zronik. “Safety has to come first.”

Zronik added that teams worked with the city and other partners to assess the damage before determining “the right decision is to take the time to remove and rebuild the affected parts of the stadium to ensure it is ready to welcome fans next summer.”

Rogers Stadium’s on-site meteorologist Kevin Mahoney described the storm as an extraordinary weather event involving a suspected microburst, extreme winds and heavy rainfall.

“[It] made it a 100-year storm for Toronto,” Mahoney stated. “It’s clear by the extreme intensity of the storm that this was exceptional for the region, and forensic meteorological analysis is ongoing.”

According to Live Nation Canada, attempts were made to find another Toronto venue capable of accommodating the concert but no suitable alternative was available. Tickets purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded to the original method of payment. Those who bought resale tickets were advised to contact their point of sale.

The cancellation currently stands as an interruption rather than the end of AC/DC’s Power Up Tour. Following Montreal and Winnipeg, the band will perform in East Rutherford, New Jersey on September 25 and Philadelphia on September 29.
