The first night of the first weekend of Coachella came to a close with legendary rock ‘n’ roll band AC/DC headlining Friday evening. Taking the stage for a full set for the first time in five years, the band kicked off their Rock or Bust global tour without longtime guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young who was forced to retire due to health issues. Young’s nephew Stevie Young took over on guitar and was joined by returning drummer Chris Slade who was tapped to replace Phil Rudd in light of the Rudd’s recent legal troubles. They joined lead singer Brian Johnson, bassist Cliff Williams and guitarist Angus Young for a blistering 20 song set.
The set launched with “Hell Ain’t A Bad Place To Be” and continued with many of the band’s best known songs like, “Back In Black,” “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,” “Thunderstruck,” “Hells Bells,” “You Shook Me All Night Long,” “T.N.T.” and “Let There Be Rock.” AC/DC played three songs off of their 2014 album Rock or Bust, including the debuts of “Play Ball” and “Baptism by Fire” and the title track which they previously performed at the Grammy’s earlier this year. The double encore saw the band rip through “Highway to Hell” before closing out with “For Those About to Rock (We Salute You).”
