12-Year-Old Owen York Shares Medley Of 30+ Umphrey’s McGee Songs

Earlier this year, we profiled 12-year-old pianist Owen York who put on an impromptu performance in New York City for a bunch of Umphrey’s McGee fans who were stuck in a hotel after a blizzard caused the evening’s UM show to be cancelled. Owen has just shared an incredible new medley in which he combines portions of over 30 Umphrey’s McGee songs to give fans a taste of that memorable NYC performance.

Three years ago Owen shared a similarly structured medley which combined songs from Frank Zappa, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd and many others including Umphrey’s McGee. In Owen’s typically modest words he has become “a little better” over the past three years. Let’s just say that’s a huge understatement. York has developed his skills for three years under the tutelage of John Lampkin, who once taught piano to the likes of multiple Tony Award winners Doug Besterman and Jason Robert Brown. Owen was recently selected as the youngest member of Rockland Youth Jazz Ensemble, an elite ten piece group from New York and New Jersey.

With that in mind, let’s get to the medley which includes such Umphrey’s McGee songs as “In The Kitchen,” “Bridgeless,” “Plunger,” “Pay The Snucka,” “Wife Soup” and “JaJunk.” Owen, who sat-in with Umphrey’s during soundcheck at an Albany show in February, shared the video to “give people the feeling of being there the night of the winter storm show.” Check it out:

Last month, Owen York performed “Ziggy Stardust” by David Bowie at Madison Square Garden in New York City during halftime of a Knicks game. Watch how it went down:
